Peter speaks to Carlo Melchior. – In 1977 Swiss-national Carlo Melchior opened a seaside restaurant in the West Country. Carlo, a man with strong vision and conviction wanted to serve quality chocolates with coffee after dinner.
Remembering what Swiss chocolates tasted like, Carlo quickly realised that he was capable of producing something very similar himself. Melchior Chocolates – at first the chocolates were the rare privilege of the restaurant clientele until he was so encouraged by the feedback that he took the radical step of selling the restaurant, and relocating to the small and picturesque village of Chittlehampton. Carlo attended a number of courses in Switzerland, and only when he was totally happy with the product, did he visit potential clients. His first was a very prestigious store in London.
