The Little Mermaid – Let the Rehearsals Begin!
October means one thing for our village pantomime: read-throughs and rehearsals for our new production of The Little Mermaid are getting underway!
Congratulations to everyone who has managed to bag a part on stage, and the very best of luck with learning all those lines. We can’t wait to see you bring the characters to life!
But, of course, a pantomime of this scale takes much more than what happens on stage. A huge shout-out to all our wonderful backstage team, who will be refining plans and getting everything underway — from set building and painting, to sourcing props and creating all the magical details that will make our production come alive.
And a special mention to our nimble-fingered seamstresses, who will by now have taken the cast’s measurements and be busy creating fabulous costumes for everyone. Busy times ahead, for sure!
It’s not too late to get involved. If you can spare a few hours here and there between now and mid-January, we’d love you to join our creative backstage crew. Whether you enjoy sewing, sawing, painting, scumbling, crafting, organising — or simply having a go at something new — there’s a job for you.
As I’ve said before, everyone is welcome, and we’ll happily find a role to suit you. Wouldn’t it be great to sit in the audience at the end of January and point out to your family and friends: “I made that!”?
We’re particularly hoping that some of our younger members of the community will step forward and get involved. Putting on a show of this scale is a huge undertaking, and much of the work has fallen to the same small group of people year after year. If we’re to keep this fabulous village tradition going, we really do need some new faces and fresh energy.
So come along, lend a hand, share a skill — or learn a new one!

Rehearsals take place on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6.30pm at the Small Hall in the Village Hall. There will always be someone there to welcome you and put you in touch with whichever team you’d like to join.
